Getting Started with Classwize

First open Classwize from the link provided by your school.

  1. Open a web browser such as Chrome.

  2. Navigate to the Classwize teacher dashboard provided by your school.

  3. Sign in using your school Google account.

Once signed in, you will see your classes and students currently online.


View Student Screens

Classwize allows teachers to see what students are doing on their devices.

  1. Select the class period you want to manage.

  2. The dashboard will display student device tiles showing their current activity.

  3. Click on a student tile to see a larger view of their screen activity.

This helps you quickly identify students who may be off task.


Focus Students on a Specific Website

You can direct the entire class to a specific website.

  1. Select your class.

  2. Click Focus.

  3. Enter the website URL you want students to use.

  4. Apply the focus session.

Students will automatically be directed to the chosen website.


Block or Allow Websites

If students attempt to access distracting sites, you can manage access directly.

To block a site:

  1. Click on the student tile showing the site.

  2. Select Block.

To allow a site that may be accidentally blocked:

  1. Click Allow for that specific website.

This gives you quick control during lessons.


Send Messages to Students

Teachers can communicate with students directly through Classwize.

  1. Select a student tile or the entire class.

  2. Click Message.

  3. Type your message and send it.

This can be useful for reminders or instructions without interrupting the class.


Pause Student Internet Access

If you need everyone’s attention:

  1. Click Pause Internet.

  2. Student browsing will temporarily stop.

This is helpful during instruction or discussion.


End the Class Session

When class ends:

  1. Click End Session or simply close the Classwize session.

  2. Students regain their normal internet access based on school filtering policies.


Helpful Classroom Tips

Teachers often find Classwize most effective when they:

  • Start a focus session at the beginning of an activity

  • Periodically check student tiles to keep students accountable

  • Use pause internet briefly when giving instructions

  • Send quick messages rather than calling out students publicly

Using these tools consistently helps students stay engaged and minimizes digital distractions.
