Check the ChromeOS Version

On a Chromebook or ChromeOS device:

  1. Click the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

  2. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon.

  3. In the left panel, scroll to the bottom and click About ChromeOS.

  4. At the top of the page you will see Google ChromeOS with the current version number displayed.

This screen shows the exact build installed on the device.


Manually Check for Updates

From the same About ChromeOS page:

  1. Click Check for updates.

  2. ChromeOS will contact Google and check if a newer version is available.

  3. If an update exists, it will automatically download in the background.

You will see a progress bar while the update downloads.


Apply the Update

Once the download finishes:

  1. ChromeOS will show Restart to update.

  2. Click Restart.

  3. The Chromebook reboots and installs the update.

The process typically takes less than one minute.


Verify the Device Is Fully Updated

After the reboot:

  1. Return to Settings → About ChromeOS.

  2. Confirm it says “Your Chromebook is up to date.”

The screen will display the newest installed version.
